The Buffalo Gap Historic Village is part of the Taylor County History Center. It contains over fifteen historic structures that tell the story of life in this region from the 1880s to the 1920s. Some of the highlights include the original Taylor County Courthouse, a doctor’s office, a railroad depot, and an early 20th century print shop. The village will also include a Nazarene Church. The historic village is the perfect place to start your exploration of the region’s history. The original courthouse and jail were bought by Ernest Walter Wilson in 1956, and he remodeled them to create a museum. He also purchased two other historic buildings and moved them near the courthouse. The result was a museum that would serve the entire region. Dr. Rode added to the village after retiring from his medical practice. In 1999, the Grady McWhiney Research Foundation and Taylor County Historical Foundation bought the property. Since then, the historical village has continued to grow and expand to accommodate the needs of visitors of all ages.

The Buffalo Gap Historic Village is a nonprofit educational facility. It has several interesting exhibits and a Texas history store. Among the other historical buildings on the grounds is the old courthouse, a two-story stone structure that was once the county seat before being replaced by Abilene. It also includes several other buildings that were used by the pioneers in the area, including the doctor’s office and the post office. The Bourn Texaco Service Station, built by the Bourn family in the 19th century, is one of the largest in the area, and the original Magnolia Oil service station, which served as the city’s main source of gasoline.

The Taylor County History Center/Buffalo GAP Historic Village is a popular destination for families. The center offers a number of educational programs and interactive exhibits. The original Taylor County courthouse, along with more than fifteen other historic buildings, was built in 1879. Over a thousand people lived in the town in 1880, which is more than double the population of Abilene today. In addition to the courthouse, there was a saloon and three or four grocery stores, including two drugstores.

The Taylor County History Center/Buffalo GAP Historic Village is located south of downtown Abilene, Texas.
